Amazon pay out heaps to their affiliates because they know that the affiliate increases their turnover. You may be more comfortable selling digital products from somewhere like Clickbank. There you can get commissions up to 70% and even more in some cases. So it is just a matter of deciding what you want to sell and then working out the best way to sell it.
Some will choose a blog as a sales platform and others a website while others will use Pay Per Click systems and others landing pages. I have sold stuff from Amazon from an article on here linked to a landing page on Blogger. All no cost stuff. All free. So you see, you can make money from affiliate marketing with no outlay whatsoever.
